Training & Education

Health professionals at any organization need to stay current on the latest health issues. Health and safety are also important parts of the worker training curriculum in many industries.

ORAU develops worker safety training

ORAU develops training and educational materials to help organizations keep their workers safe.

You need a company that combines a mastery of health and safety topics with the design and delivery of training via the most appropriate avenue. Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) offers that winning combination.

ORAU's health communications experts work alongside instructional designers, graphic artists, and multimedia developers. We create customized, cost-effective health and safety training and educational materials for your target audience.

ORAU's approach is to work closely with you to:

While often an effective method, ORAU does not restrict itself to traditional classroom training. We explore cost-effective and efficient alternatives for education, such as:

ORAU also makes it a point to capitalize on the benefits of technology:

ORAU has been in the professional and technical training business for nearly 60 years. Some of our work has included:

Cardiovascular Public Health Training and Technical Support. For the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, our staff conducts training, develops computer-based training products, and prepares resource materials that help state agency staff implement heart disease and stroke prevention programs.

HIV/AIDS Outreach and Training
The National Library of Medicine’s HIV/AIDS outreach programs have benefited from ORAU’s training and materials development expertise for many years. ORAU’s support encompasses developing educational materials and training modules, providing community-based organizations with training focusing on HIV/AIDS, and representing NLM at national and International HIV/AIDS conferences. In addition, it has required meeting the needs of a variety of audiences, including:

Self-Directed Study—U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). ORAU supports the NRC’s training and development program with the design, development, and delivery of directed self-study courses. The courses allow individuals to study at their own pace and to self-check their progress while remaining current on regulations.

State of Kentucky Emergency Communications. ORAU trained public information professionals in health and education departments and organizations statewide. Topics included on effective risk communication skills, techniques, and principles, dealing with the media in high concern/high stress situations, and why and how to design an appropriate message map or talking points.

Full descriptions of these projects and more are available on ORAU's Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education Web site.
