Policy Planning & Development
Defining an organization's and personnel's responsibilities through policies, plans, and guidelines is an important part of preparing to respond to national security or other types of emergencies. Such documentation offers an element of consistency to a response. It can also help your organization identify areas where training may be needed. Ultimately, these documents help your personnel know what to do to protect workers, the public, and the environment during the response to a national or international emergency.
The staff from Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) has been involved in the development of some of our nation's most important response plans, including the overarching National Response Plan. We bring a comprehensive knowledge on what is needed to develop thorough and effective plans and policies.
National Incident Management System (NIMS)
ORAU helps government agencies at all levels nationwide in their efforts to comply with the standards and requirements of NIMS.
Support to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
ORAU employees have assisted in developing and/or reviewing multiple national policies and plans for the DHS Contingency Planning and Support Division.
Emergency Management
ORAU's emergency management experts assist government agencies at all levels in assessing and developing their emergency response plans. Specific examples include:
- U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Emergency Management and Policy (NA-41)
ORAU's emergency planners support NA-41 by coordinating technical expert assistance and managing the Emergency Management Issues Special Interest Group. These two mechanisms supply individuals to review policy and plans and to help develop and implement guidance documents. The goal is to ensure effective, efficient, and consistent implementation of DOE emergency management policy and guidance across the department. - DOE Office of Emergency Management Implementation (NA-43)
ORAU staff provide technical assistance to the NA-43 with the design and development of oversight tools for emergency management programs at DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) site offices. ORISE also assists with the review and assessment of existing emergency management programs at NNSA sites. ORISE works with NA-43 to define standardized approaches and expectations for headquarters and site office personnel in the area of emergency management programs.
