Protecting Human Subjects

ORAU is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and following accepted national and international principles in protecting human subjects involved in research. Through our contract to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), we partner with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in this effort.

Human Subjects Research Database
We maintain for DOE this Web-based database on current research involving human subjects.

Human Subjects Policy Implementation
We assist DOE’s Office of Science in implementing its Protecting Human Subjects program through various activities.

DOE Central Beryllium Institutional Review Board (CBeIRB)
We manage this IRB to provide expertise and consistency in addressing human subjects protection issues for any DOE-related beryllium research or testing.

Oak Ridge Site-wide Institutional Review Board (ORSIRB)
We manage this IRB to provide expertise and consistency in addressing human subjects protection issues for research involving Oak Ridge Operations workers.

ORISE Protecting Human Subjects Site
This site offers resources and other information about our protecting human subjects program. Also provides forms and procedures for DOE's CBeIRB and the ORSIRB.

Institutional Review Board

ORAU manages Institutional Review Boards to provide expertise and consistency in addressing human subjects protection issues for research or testing.
