Radiation Exposure Data Collection
Epidemiologic research depends heavily upon large numbers of research participants and even greater quantities of data. You need an organization that can identify required data and develop plans for collecting and organizing it to ensure accurate results and conclusions are reached.
ORAU's proven methodology includes:
- Site surveys to determine the quality, completeness and consistency of available data.
- Development of procedures and protocols for collecting the data.
- Data collection activities that include:
- conducting personal and written interviews;
- extracting published information from death certificates, medical and hospitalization records, work assignment and attendance records; and
- recording personal observations.
- Computerization of all types of occupational data
We also:
- trace current address and telephone numbers for workers;
- Code illnesses and causes of death
- Keep records inventories
- Manage records
Project Highlight
Through our management of the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, ORAU oversees two extensive radiation exposure data collection projects for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
ORAU provides:
- Data analysis
- Health physics expertise
- Database management
- Web site support
- Software development
- Annual reports on occupational radiation exposure
Between the NRC and DOE databases, ORAU maintains more than 8 million individual exposure records. Learn more about this work on the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education site.
