ORAU’s Commitment to Environmental Management Recognized by International Organization
ORAU has successfully renewed its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 registration after a recent week-long reassessment audit.

ORAU Recognized as One of Tennessee’s Best Employers for the Second Straight Year 
For the second year in a row, ORAU has been recognized as one of the Best Employers in Tennessee by Business Tennessee magazine in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Tennessee State Council, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Best Companies Group.

ORAU Awards 2008 Pollard Scholarships to Exceptional Students
ORAU is awarding five William G. Pollard scholarships, at $1,200 each, toward undergraduate studies for the 2008-2009 academic year. The recipients of this year’s scholarships are Shanleigh Adler, Nathan Basler, Kaitlyn Huppmann, Russell Thurmond and Julie Turner.

ORAU Welcomes Two New Universities to Consortium
ORAU welcomed the University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) and the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR) as its newest consortium members during the 63rd annual meeting of the ORAU Consortium of Sponsoring Institutions held in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

ORAU experienced another successful year of offering innovative solutions that meet the needs of our consortium and our customers. Read about some of our notable achievements in the 2007 ORAU Annual Report.

ORAU/ORCAS Workshop Focuses on Relationships Between Universities, DOE, and National Labs
In conjunction with the annual meeting of the ORAU Council of Sponsoring Institutions, representatives from more than 50 ORAU member schools participated in a workshop to gain additional insight into developing productive collaborations with DOE and its labs. Innovative research opportunities were also highlighted.

Oak Ridge Team Takes Top Prize in Tennessee Science Bowl
Oak Ridge High School claimed victory over 54 teams from 33 schools across the state of Tennessee in the U.S. Department of Energy event, held Feb. 23 in Knoxville. The team will travel to Washington, D.C., in May to compete against more than 60 teams in DOE's National Science Bowl®. ORAU was a co-sponsor and organizer of the Tennessee event.

Outstanding Mentors Honored DOE, ORAU, ORNL
The U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory recognized outstanding ORNL staff for mentoring students and teachers in laboratory education programs and throughout the community. ORAU administered 34 education programs for ORNL in 2007, involving almost 1,100 participants from nearly 300 colleges and universities in the United States and around the world.

ORAU Council Meeting Set for March 4-5, 2008
The 63rd Annual Meeting of the Council of Sponsoring Institutions will be held at the Oak Ridge Center for Advanced Studies (ORCAS). In conjunction with the meeting, ORCAS will host a workshop on Relationships Between Universities, National Laboratories, and the Department of Energy. Successful collaborations between universities and DOE labs and opportunities for the future collaborations and DOE extramural funding will be highlighted.

NASA Postdoc Participant Studies Mysteries of Black Holes
As a participant in the ORAU-administered NASA Postdoctral Fellowship Program, Astrophysicist Keigo Fukumura is fulfilling his dream of “pursuing the mysteries of the universe.”
