ORAU at a Glance

Consisting of 120 member universities, ORAU leverages the strength of our university consortium by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies, and private industry to:

  • Strengthen America’s scientific research and education enterprise to enhance global competitiveness
  • Build public confidence in the management of health issues and environmental cleanup initiatives
  • Enhance our nation’s preparedness to respond to emergencies related to terrorist incidents and natural disasters

We also manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Government Relations

The ORAU director of government relations advocates for ORAU’s mission while communicating the unique capabilities of the company, its employees and university consortium.

Based in Washington, D.C., the ORAU director of government relations serves as the company’s primary liaison with the administration, members of the U.S. Congress, congressional staff and federal agencies. The director represents ORAU with the many industry-related associations and coalitions headquartered in Washington, D.C., as well as advocates for ORAU’s mission while communicating the unique capabilities of the company, its employees and university consortium.

The director of government relations serves as a member of the ORAU leadership team, providing strategic planning, issues management, and legislative and regulatory support to ORAU’s business portfolio.

ORAU works with more than 22 different federal agencies, providing innovative scientific and technical solutions to advance national priorities in science, education, security and health. Through specialized teams of experts, unique laboratory capabilities and access to a consortium of more than 100 major Ph.D.-granting institutions, ORAU works with federal, state, local and commercial customers to advance national priorities and serve the public interest.

ORAU is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tenn., with operations in 18 states and 900+ employees.
