The Navy Source Data System Program was established in 1985 by ORAU to provide functional user training for the Naval Military Personnel Command under an interagency agreement between DOE and the U.S. Navy.
In the Manpower Education, Research and Training Division, Professional Training Programs continued assistance to DOE and the city of Oak Ridge in monitoring mercury and other contaminants released to the environment by government facilities in the 1950s and '60s.
A Visiting Scholars Program was established in 1985 to fund travel for lecturing scientists from ORAU member universities.
Two programs at ORISE received national recognition in 1985. The Education and Communications Office received the National Award for Energy Innovation for its Energy Management Program. The U.S. Federal Laboratory Consortium selected the Radiation Internal Dose Information Center to receive the Special Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer.
TRADE activities expanded in 1985 to include a computerized training inventory file on a nationwide system and the development of special interest groups.
