1990

ORAU experts participated in several of DOE's "Tiger Teams" in 1990. This was part of an initiative to strengthen DOE's environment, safety and health protection and waste management activities. Tiger Team assessments are designed to ensure that DOE facilities achieve and maintain full compliance with federal and state environmental, safety, and health requirements.

ORAU cosponsored the first in a series of seven annual conferences, "Today's Women in Science and Technology," providing an opportunity for college women to meet with professionals in scientific and technical fields and to learn more about the career options available to them.

In 1990, ORAU assisted Martin Marietta Energy Systems, the contractor for the three DOE Oak Ridge plants, in the development and delivery of the Radiation Protection Technician Training Program, which was designed to increase the skills of those workers at risk of losing their jobs resulting from changing priorities within DOE.
