Advisor: Dr. Alexander Kott (alexander.kott1.civ@mail.mil)
Location: Adelphi, Maryland, or Aberdeen, Maryland

Key words: information fusion, social computing, social networks, group dynamics, cultural dynamics

This research focuses on computational methods for identification, modeling and anticipating the structure and dynamics of human groups, organizations, networks, and societies. Opportunities exist in the following areas:

    • information fusion for social modeling and analysis
    • identification of covert organizations and networks from sparse information
    • dynamics of networks and groups due to internal developments and external stimuli
    • formation of attitudes, opinions and beliefs
    • anticipation of asymmetric course of action in insurgencies
    • identification of deception and counter-deception
    • estimation of communications impact
    • impact of socio-cultural  factors in ethnically and culturally diverse societies
    • PMESII effects of DIME actions in distressed societies
    • low-cost, self-generating, self-calibrating models
    • validation methods for computational social models and tools
