Project Highlight: Radiation Emergency Medical Response Course for the American College of Medical Toxicology
When dealing with unfamiliar substances, the general public will often turn to our nation's poison control centers for advice. This is true for radiation as well.
To help the emergency physicians and toxicologists who staff these centers be better prepared to answer radiation-related questions, ORAU designed a 4 1/2-day course for the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) in the medical management of radiation emergencies.
ORAU's radiation emergency medicine experts also traveled to Orlando, Fla., to conduct a one-day course for the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology on the same topic. In addition to toxicologists, attendees included senior staff, physicians, and scientists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
