MULTIPLE OPENINGS
PURPOSE: Under immediate supervision, performs specific, well-defined activities requiring professional or scientific training that are designed to prepare incumbent for examination duties. These activities include processing items of evidence for the presence of hairs, fibers, and conducting examinations regarding cordage and fabric.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Receiving evidence, inventorying it, and preparing related notes.
Performing routine analyses and tests related to evidence.
Making minor modifications to standard protocols.
Photographing evidence.
Bachelor's degree in Science (biology, chemistry, physical anthropology, textile science, forensic science or related discipline) and up to two years job related experience or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Experience and skill in using laboratory equipment and techniques required. Must have a basic knowledge of laboratory safety practices. Must have knowledge of microscopy and skill in applying established methods and procedures to provide technical information about submitted items of evidence and to suggest minor modifications of methods and procedures to solve problems encountered or to improve the quality of results. Knowledge of the characteristics and use of appropriate scientific equipment, instrumentation and tools and skill in performing many steps required to gather reliable data necessary. Must have strong written and oral administrative communication skills. Must be able to pass an FBI security background investigation and to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
