ORAU Employees Speak Highly of Organization’s Mission and Strong Leadership

ORAU Employees

Over the past few years Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) has been recognized as a top employer in Knoxville and the state of Tennessee.

In 2006, we were honored by the Knoxville Business Journal as one of the area’s “Best Companies to Work For”. We were also recognized in 2007, 2008 and 2010 as one of Tennessee’s best employers by Business Tennessee magazine.

So why is ORAU such a great place to work? See what employees are saying about the organization and our corporate culture in their own words:

Mike Ickowitz“Coming to ORAU has been a wonderful experience. I find myself constantly challenged with new and exciting projects, and management has been supportive in giving me the tools needed to broaden my skill set and succeed. I am proud to be part a great organization, working towards a mission that I believe in.”
- Mike Ickowitz, Science Education and Workforce Development

Angie Hatmaker“I have been employed with ORAU for less than a year. In today’s economy it is very reassuring to work for a company that is growing and still putting its employees first. When I interviewed with ORAU I could not believe the awesome opportunities available. Meeting so many people who had been with ORAU for 30+ years made want to be a part of this team. I feel very blessed to be part of such a wonderful company!”
- Angie Hatmaker, Procurement and Contracts Administration

Michael Hubbard“I am proud to be an employee of a company that is providing encouragement to the next generation of science and technology leaders. This is my second time working for ORAU. After seven years of wandering, I came home. I believe in ORAU and I feel ORAU believes in me.”
- Michael Hubbard, Science Education and Workforce Development

Melinda Adcock“I am excited and grateful to be a member of the ORAU family. ORAU is committed to growth in every program area, which translates into exciting opportunities for employees to learn and stretch our knowledge and skills. I have learned so much in my time here and I know I have barely scratched the surface. Employees are also encouraged to participate in surveys and focus groups—just two examples of how management listens to our ideas, needs and concerns. Many companies say they listen, but ORAU truly hears and responds.”
- Melinda Adcock, Business Operations

Faye Brown“When I first came to ORAU, I had certain expectations based on ORAU’s reputation in Oak Ridge. Since joining the organization, ORAU continues to exceed my expectations. I look forward each day to coming to work knowing that what I am contributing to the company is appreciated by both management and my co-workers. I feel that I do make a difference and I am not just an employee, but a member of the team. I am grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me. I am committed to making every day at work an ORAU day!”
- Faye Brown, Human Resources

Kristin Kelly“From day one I have been treated with the utmost respect and made to feel like a vital part of this team. Anyone working at ORAU knows that this company truly values every employee; you aren’t just a number here. The leadership takes the time to talk to employees, and get feedback about what is going on around the organization. Additionally, they actively participate in company activities and meetings to keep the lines of communication open. The best part about working for ORAU is the constant encouragement and opportunity for personal and professional growth.”
- Kristin Kelly, Health Communication

Gray Skinner“During my time ORAU as a legal intern, I have been given many opportunities to take on challenging projects and allowed to work independently. The staff and support at ORAU are unmatched and the work environment is excellent. The HR staff at ORAU have created a work environment where all employees are respected and have the tools they need to be productive. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in such a comfortable and challenging workplace.”
- Gray Skinner, intern, General Counsel’s Office
