Introduction

Certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) is recognized around the world to indicate that an individual has attained the experience and mastered the knowledge necessary to perform the duties of a professional-level health physicist. Indeed, certification is often required for employment in many health physics positions. From an employer’s perspective, certification provides assurance to the regulatory agency and potential sources of funding that the employer’s staff has the qualifications necessary to meet the regulatory and/or contractual obligations.

Continuing Education Credits (CECs) will be requested from the American Academy of Health Physics for
completion of this course in case any certified HPs choose to attend.

Description

This four-day course will cover much of the subject material necessary to take and pass Part I of the ABHP certification examination. It can be considered both a review and shakedown that will assess a participant’s readiness to successfully pass the exam. At the same time, it will identify those subject areas that need further study. Approximately 50% of the time will be spent taking and reviewing typical test questions. The remainder of the time will be devoted to lectures.

Who should attend

The course is intended for those who are currently preparing to take Part I of the American Board of Health Physics certification exam. Nevertheless, individuals studying for the NRRPT certification examination would also benefit. It is not necessary for attendees to have begun studying for the exam prior to attending this course, but it will be more beneficial if they have.

Cost

$1,995 — The tuition fee includes the full cost of training and instructional materials. Attendees also receive the PTP Electronic Library DVD and a bank of multiplechoice preparation questions for the Part I test on DVD. The latter will facilitate the individual’s continued selfassessment after the course. While the take-home material will not include all the reference material necessary to prepare for the examination, a suggested reading list will be provided.
