Partnerships for Innovation
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education's (ORISE) pandemic flu team was recently recognized for its pioneering infectious disease work completed in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
During a monthly science forum at the CDC’s main Atlanta campus, the agency’s National Center for Preparedness, Detection and Control of Infectious Diseases (NCPDCID) group honored Dr. Deborah Levy, chief of healthcare preparedness activity, for her division’s work in the area of pandemic flu—work developed with support from ORISE.
ORISE’s pandemic flu team leader Freddy Gray was in attendance during the award presentation. “It is truly an honor to be included in this award,” Gray said. “Dr. Levy is a very strong proponent of ORAU’s pandemic flu team and is a big believer that we are all part of the same group—working side-by-side to do the same work.”
For the past five years, ORISE has supported the CDC's pandemic flu initiatives, which have included designing and facilitating innovative, community-led workshops and health care stakeholder meetings... all centered around assisting communities in developing tools and strategies in preparation for a public health emergency, such as an influenza pandemic.
