Nomination Process
Instructions to Offices of Presidents, Chancellors, and ORAU Representatives
To submit an applicant from your institution for selection to the U.S. delegation to the 58th Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students, please complete the process as described below. All applications for the U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation were due Dec. 19, 2007. All applications for Oak Ridge Associated Universities and Mars, Inc., are to be submitted electronically by 4:00 PM ET on January 11, 2008.
There are three pathways for nominations:
- For students who are working on projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC).
- For students who are working on projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (NSF-MPS).
- For students who are attending ORAU member institutions and working on a research project funded by a federal agency.
A university may use any or all pathways. However, only one nomination can be submitted for a given pathway from each university.
Nominations for DOE SC and/or NSF-MPS should be processed and uploaded by a President, Chancellor, or an authorized designee of the President or Chancellor.
Nominations for ORAU should be processed and uploaded by the university’s ORAU Representative or designee.
A completed application consists of:
- a completed nomination form
- a one-page personal resume of the applicant
- a one page letter of reference from the applicant’s advisor and
- an essay of no more than one page written by the applicant describing why participation in the Lindau meeting is important for the applicant’s graduate education.
All components of the application MUST be merged into a single PDF file for upload to the online nomination application. The PDF file cannot be larger than 10 MB.
