Rasheen Connell
One of 14 outstanding graduate students sponsored by ORAU to attend the 2008 meeting with Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany
Background:
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Earned a bachelor’s degree in physics at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania
As an undergraduate, was a member of the Lincoln Advanced Science Engineering Reinforcement (LASER) Program, which is a mathematics and science program that encourages students to be excellent scholars at the collegiate level and go to graduate school to acquire doctoral degrees in physics, chemistry, math or engineering
Currently, doctoral student enrolled in the department of physics and astronomy at Howard University
Has worked with world-renowned scientists from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, National Weather Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Behavior of the Raman LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) atmospheric water vapor and aerosol measurement system under summer atmospheric conditions
What was the experience of meeting Nobel Laureates in Lindau like?
“This wonderful experience has bolstered my passion for research and has motivated me to publish more. The Nobel Laureates have shown me that discipline, dedication and determination are three principles needed to develop good research. Because of this experience, I strongly desire to become an outstanding physicist in my field.”
In your view, what are the benefits of being a Lindau participant?
“Overall, the trip was fantastic and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The interaction among the young researchers and Nobel Laureates has positively helped me to further develop as a scientist and researcher. This experience has given me a chance to network with prominent scientists that exist globally.”
