Media Advisory: ORAU to Award $30,000 in Education Grants to Nine Area Schools

WHAT: Eighth Annual Education Grant Award Ceremony

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) will award 19 teachers and administrators from nine area schools/school systems with more than $30,000 in grant monies to fund a variety of educational programs and equipment requests, including the purchase of Promethean boards, a SMART Board, microscopes, computers, a projector, calculators and an array of other scientific, mathematics and technical learning materials.

Teachers will be able to take part in an interactive learning demonstration involving a Promethean board—an interactive whiteboard that reflects computer screen images—courtesy of Promethean World.

Program speakers will include ORAU President H. Andy Page; ORAU General Counsel Ivan Boatner; ORAU Vice President of Human Resources Dan Standley; and ORAU Vice President, Science Education Programs Wayne Stevenson.

At the conclusion of the program, ORAU will make a special announcement regarding its successful Extreme Classroom Makeover campaign. For more information about the 2009-2010 Extreme Classroom Makeover Contest.

WHY: Since 2002—the beginning of the ORAU Education Grant program—ORAU has provided more than $210,000 to area schools for projects that support ORAU’s mission of enriching science, technology, education and mathematics programs.
