Partnerships for Innovation

Focused on enhancing the scientific research and education enterprises of our nation, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) continues to leverage academic, commercial and federal partnerships to help cultivate the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Here are just a few examples of some of the education programs and resources administered by ORAU:
Co-sponsored by ORAU and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), this competitive grant program provides faculty–student teams with a monetary award and valuable access to the lab’s leadership class computing resources and staff.
In honor of the organization’s founding father, ORAU established the William G. Pollard Scholarship program in 1996 to recognize children of ORAU employees–who are outstanding high school or undergraduate students–with a monetary award to further their undergraduate studies.
As an investment in the future of science education in America, ORAU’s Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Awards Program rewards ambitious young faculty at our member universities.
In accordance with its goal of enhancing scientific research and education, ORAU annually awards area schools with education grants for advancement of math and science education.
Students from across the state compete in this annual event sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office and other local businesses, including ORAU. The winning team receives an all–expenses–paid trip to compete in the National Science Bowl® held in Washington, D.C.
ORAU maintains an extensive online catalog that lists academic fellowships and scholarships, research experiences, sabbaticals, and internships funded by a wide range of government agencies.
ORAU is hosting a local contest in which one lucky East Tennessee middle school teacher will receive an extreme classroom makeover featuring: a SMART Board with Sanyo XGA LCD projector, laptop, document camera, E–Instruction Classroom Response System with 24 LCD RF Response Pads, audio system for audio/speech reinforcement, Sony digital camera, iPod and teacher training.
