OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) recently presented a check for $1,500 to Karns Middle School through its Volunteers in Education Team (VET) program.
The funds were donated to the school to assist the Science Olympiad Team, sponsored by science and social studies teacher Tracy Baldwin. The team works on science projects throughout the year, such as building model bridges and robots. Students then participate in an annual competition where their work is showcased and the students' scientific knowledge is put to the test.
Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 97 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies, and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
