ORAU Employees Collect School Supplies for ADFAC

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) employees are helping families in need by providing back-to-school supplies through the Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) for the ninth straight year. ORAU employees contributed $2,500 worth of school supplies to the organization this year, and 32 employees volunteered to help hand out the donated materials last week.

Based in Oak Ridge, ADFAC is an independent, nonprofit organization serving Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Morgan, Roane and Scott counties. The organization reaches out to underprivileged families throughout the community by providing basic survival necessities and striving to improve or replace existing substandard housing. ADFAC’s goal is to restore pride and stability to neighborhoods.

ORAU is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 98 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
