PSTCC competes in statewide and southeastern mathematics competitions among community colleges and its students regularly place very highly in these competitions. The middle school math bowl, which just completed its seventh year, attracts participants from across East Tennessee and allows students to compete against their peers through a challenging multiple choice exam designed by college professors from across the state.

"The Pellissippi State Math department is very grateful for this donation, which provides funding for the department’s efforts to encourage interest in mathematics," said Jonathan Lamb, associate professor of mathematics at PSTCC. "The money will be used for the 2008 Pellissippi State Middle School Mathematics Competition and also for several intercollegiate math competitions, activities and scholarships."
