Agency Seeks Commercially Viable Applications for 11 Tennessee-, Kentucky-, and Alabama-based Fossil Plants
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 4, 2010
FY10-24
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is soliciting proposals for commercial reuse of coal fly ash. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will support development of high-volume, commercially viable uses for coal combustion products. Though this solicitation is part of TVA's continuing efforts to address coal fly ash issues that resulted from the Dec. 22, 2008, ash spill at the Kingston Fossil Plant, the scope of the request for proposals (RFP) includes 11 TVA fossil plants located throughout Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama.
The Beneficial Use and Management of Coal Combustion Products RFP seeks technologies, processes and products that reduce the total amount of fly ash, bottom ash, boiler slag, and flue gas desulphurization residues that are currently bound for disposal. Proposals should be commercially viable and provide options for the beneficial reuse of the material or identify alternative collection methods that reduce the impacts of disposal.
Support from TVA for commercially viable applications of coal combustion products may be in the form of grants, subsidies or TVA in-kind services. The number of investigations supported and the total amount of support awarded will depend on:
Eligibility for the funding is open to colleges and universities, research and development institutions, private companies and individuals. Pre-proposals must be submitted electronically through the Beneficial Use and Management of Coal Combustion Products Web site and must be received no later March 14, 2010. Late submissions will not be reviewed and any proposal received by any other means will not be considered. Questions or requests for clarification related to this solicitation must be submitted to flyashresearch@orau.org.
