VET Makes Donation to Claxton Elementary

CLAXTON, Tenn.—Oak Ridge Associated Universities’ Volunteers in Education Team (VET) recently donated $1,000 to Claxton Elementary School for the creation of a dedicated science classroom with equipment and materials for teaching all branches of science.

“Most science education is currently done with a textbook and teachers have to check out equipment to take back to their rooms. I thought, why don’t we set up a science room,” said Alan Tatum, whose two children attend Claxton.

One teacher from each grade level and several parents will design the room. VET Chair Alex Boerner presented Cheryl Littleton, Claxton Elementary Assistant Principal, with a check toward the effort.
