ORAU Employees Hold School Supply Drive for Aid to Distressed Families of Anderson County

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Oak Ridge Associated Universities’ (ORAU’s) Employees' Club and Volunteers in Education Team (VET) conducted their fourth annual school supply drive for Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC). ORAU employees delivered a check for $200 and the hundreds of new markers, crayons, backpacks, folders, rulers, and other supplies donated to ADFAC on July 30.

Without Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC), hundreds of children in Anderson and surrounding counties would have  to go to school this fall without the necessary supplies. Employees’ Club President Wendy Dupes said, “I hate to think of kids having to go to school without the things that all the other kids have.”

Last year, ADFAC gave 500 Anderson County children from low-income families a backpack, grade-appropriate supplies, and a $15 voucher to purchase a pair of shoes or new clothing for the beginning of school.
