Pollard Auditorium Under Renovation, ORAU Donates Equipment

ORAU’s Pollard Auditorium, which was closed on October 1 for renovations, is now seat-less. Workers disassembled the auditorium seating this week to make way for the improvements to the facility, including new carpet, wood flooring for the stage, new upholstered seats with writing tablets, improved stair safety, handrail and step lighting, and wheelchair accessible seating locations to name a few. The old auditorium seats are being donated to Bearden High School.

In addition, the kitchen has been dismantled, and all cabinetry and appliances have been donated to the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge.

The furniture from the auditorium lobby was given to the Joint Information Center, which ORISE’s Health, Safety and Emergency Management program operates for DOE’s Oak Ridge Operations office.

Renovations are on track for completion by April 2004.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 88 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies, and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
