ORAU Honors Indiana University with Special Presentation

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)Vice President for Partnership Development recently presented Indiana University with a membership plaque honoring their recent addition to the ORAU consortium of universities. Indiana University (IU) was elected as a member institution at the 59th annual meeting of the ORAU Council of Sponsoring Institutions held earlier this year in Washington, D.C.

“While visiting IU, I was introduced to many wonderfully advanced systems, and look forward to learning so much more.  From the new Low Energy Neutron source to the stunningly complex and successful Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute, the potential for developing far-reaching partnerships is super,” Nemeth said.

Named by Time as College of the Year among research universities in 2001, IU brings an array of research facilities to the service of the consortium, including the IU Cyclotron Facility, a multi-purpose nuclear accelerator laboratory. In partnership with the National Science Foundation, IU is constructing the Low Energy Neutron Source, a neutron-scattering facility, to promote the study of the inner workings of molecular systems through high-resolution neutron radiography. The project will complement the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) currently under construction at Oak Ridge National Laboratory by allowing researchers and university students to develop the skills required to utilize the full potential of the SNS.

“Through partnerships such as these, IU faculty, researchers and technologists can contribute to the advancement of scientific research and education,” said IU Vice President for Research and Information Technology Michael McRobbie.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 91 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies, and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
