ORAU’s Native American Heritage Celebration Open to the Public
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Did you know that November is Native American Heritage Month? To celebrate, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) will host a special community event. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, ORAU will present a taped showing of the Unto These Hills drama at 11:30 a.m. in Pollard Technology Conference Center on the ORAU campus.
Unto These Hills is an outdoor drama of the Cherokee Indian tribe in North Carolina . It is the tragic and triumphant story beginning with the arrival of Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto in 1540 and continuing the Cherokee story through the infamous Trail of Tears and the bravery of a few Cherokee men who fought to stay on the land of their heritage. The video of the program also features the famous Cherokee Eagle Dance.
Popcorn will be served at the free event, and the community is invited to join us and enjoy the show while learning about the vibrant history of the Native American people.
ORAU is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 91 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies, and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
