ORAU Receives Eisenhower Award for Excellence in Small Business Subcontracting

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Dr. Ronald D. Townsend, president of Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), accepted the 2006 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence on behalf of ORAU from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

The award recognizes prime contractors that have excelled in their utilization of small businesses as suppliers and subcontractors.

Townsend accepted the award during Small Business Week 2006 in Washington, D.C., where the ORAU organization was honored for its hard work, innovative ideas and dedication to the small business community.

Each year, small business owners from across the country come together in the Nation’s capital to participate in the two-day conference involving business sessions, networking and celebration.

In addition to his role with ORAU, Townsend also serves as director for the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). ORISE, which is managed by ORAU for the U.S. Department of Energy, focuses on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness and educate the next generation of scientists.
