ORAU Welcomes Community to Event Promoting Disability Employment Awareness
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—To mark the recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) will present a special community event on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 2-3 p.m., at the Pollard Technology Conference Center on the ORAU campus. The program, titled "Technology Opening Doors for Differently-Abled Workers in the 21st Century," will promote disability awareness in the workplace and the opportunities technology brings to differently-abled workers.
The program will feature a special performance of "The Emperor’s New Clothes" by InterAct Children’s Theatre for the Deaf from Knoxville, Tenn. Guest speakers include Stephanie Brewer Cook, Disability Services Coordinator for the City of Knoxville, as well as Oak Ridge City Manager Jim O’Connor, who will both offer their perspectives on how technology has changed the face of disability employment awareness in the 21st Century.
Refreshments will be served at the free event, and the community is invited to enjoy the show while learning about the technological opportunities available to differently-abled workers in the Knoxville and Oak Ridge communities.
