ORAU Has More Than 50 Percent Employee Participation in First Day of its United Way/Community Shares Giving Campaign
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—ORAU employees gathered on Oct. 17 to kick off the company’s 2006 Giving Campaign for United Way and Community Shares. This year’s drive, themed “60 Years of Giving and Caring,” which highlights individual ORAU employee volunteer efforts for various community programs and also recognizes ORAU’s 60th anniversary, was welcomed with ice cream, cookies and door prizes in an effort to get employees excited about contributing to deserving community programs. ORAU jumpstarted its giving campaign with a corporate donation of $10,000 to United Way of Anderson County.

Instead of setting a monetary goal for this year, ORAU’s target is to reach 100 percent employee participation in the campaign by Nov. 20. By the end of the hour-and-a-half event, ORAU had 54 percent participation from Oak Ridge employees, with early donations totaling $54,599 from employees.
“There’s no question about the impact of coworkers telling why they give their time and money,” said Karen Bridgewater with United Way of Anderson County (UWAC). UWAC will attend between 50 and 75 kickoff events during its campaign season, which runs from August through November.
