ORAU Awards More than $86,000 to Employees During Annual Ceremony

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) awarded more than $86,000 to 80 employees during a recent ceremony at Pollard Technology Conference Center to commemorate the organization’s Achievement Cash Award Program (ACAP).

The purpose of ACAP is to reward specific, measurable and exemplary accomplishments within ORAU’s programmatic and university consortium activities and business support operations. This year, two individuals and nine teams representing a cross-section of the programs and support operations at ORAU were honored for their achievements.

Among the winners was a team that worked with the Department of Homeland Security’s National Preparedness Task Force (NPTF) to support contingency planning and strategic preparation for terrorist events, natural disasters and other potential hazards. A second group of ORAU employees was honored for working with the National Cancer Institute to develop a comprehensive training program on end-of-life palliative care for health care providers across the nation.

Other winners included a team that developed an electronic newsletter dedicated to increasing interest in the organization’s diversity initiatives and a group of employees who were recognized for putting forth more than a year’s worth of research, design, testing and implementation that resulted in the 2006 launch of redesigned ORAU and ORISE Web sites.

"The ACAP awards are a special way to honor employees for continued excellence through specific achievements as individuals or teams," said ORAU Director of Compensation and Benefits Phil Sartell. "These accomplishments help strengthen the organization’s mission and illustrate a few of the many reasons why ORAU was recently recognized as a top employer by Business Tennessee magazine and the Knoxville Business Journal."

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 98 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
