Oak Ridge, Tenn.—Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Penguin Players presented to pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students at Woodland Elementary a 20-minute musical stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s popular children’s book, The Gruffalo. In addition to Woodland Elementary, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) helped facilitate similar performances at nine other area schools in an effort to promote and increase participation in the Imagination Library program. Since becoming Anderson County’s Imagination Library corporate sponsor in 2001, ORAU has sent more than 98,000 free books to every registered child in the county each month from birth until age five.
ORAU is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 99 major research institutions to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies and private industry. ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
