RSS News Feeds

RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is a format for delivering news summaries or Web site updates in an automated fashion.

RSS content, known as feeds, can be accessed using software known as a feed reader or an aggregator. One subscribes to an RSS feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser, e.g. Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7, that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

To see a list of RSS aggregators, you can see Wikipedia's list of aggregators. Included in this list is Google Reader which works within your Web browser and requires no additional download, but does require a free registration with Google.

ORAU maintains a set of RSS feeds listed on the right side column on this page. You can either subscribe to them with an RSS-savvy Web browser or copy the links and paste the addresses in your news aggregator.
