Post-Bachelor's Researcher in Mechanical Response of Brittle Materials & Brittle Material Components

The Post-BS Research Assistant will assist the POC primarily in the stress analysis and mechanical evaluation of brittle materials that are used in diesel particulate filters, diesel fuel injectors, armor ceramics, and power electronic devices. This is a 12-month contract. A common denominator in all of CerSaT Group’s work is the sought-after understanding of the relationship between mechanical performance and microstructure in brittle materials; the Research Assistant would get a strong exposure to that in this study. Experiences with any or all of the following would likely occur: machine design and computer aided drafting (CAD), finite element analysis (ANSYS), µ-FEA stress analysis, microstructural analysis, mechanical evaluation, optical microscopy and fractography, UV imaging and dye penetrant analysis, elastic property determination using resonance ultrasound spectroscopy, and acoustic emission analysis. Depending on available funding, the Post-BS Research Assistant would be encouraged to attend one conference to present his or her work.
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or related discipline is required. Experience with computer-aided drawing and finite element analysis. Experience with interpreting and creating engineering and machinist drawings.
