| One of the first problems for Standard Chemical was the presence of radium-228 (mesothorium) in the radium sources that the lab produced. Their customers expected pure radium-226, and were very unhappy with some of the initial product. During the decommissioning of the Flannery building, some of the windowsills were found to be heavily contaminated - note the proximity of the lab bench to the window in the photo. |
