Pressler Cold Cathode X-ray Tubes (ca. 1910-1950) |

Manufactured by Otto Pressler of Germany. In the upper tube, the anticathode
is opposite the cathode while the anode (two twisted wires) comes in at an
angle. In the lower tube, the positions of the anode and anticathode are
reversed.
One of the two small protuberances from the glass stem housing the cathode contains some material (charcoal?) that when heated in a flame will increase the internal gas pressure. The other protuberance, diagonally opposite, is the sealed extension used to pull the vacuum. Designed for classroom demonstrations. |
