RIA Publications

Welcome to the RIA publications archive!

Many documents exist which describe RIA physics and technical developments. Their level of detail differs: there are detailed scientific reports describing RIA physics and technology, and there are also high-level documents broadly outlining RIA and its goals. In order to organize this material, below is a road map for RIA documents.

The Science of the Rare Isotope Accelerator (RIA)
A Brochure from the RIA Users Community

RIA Users CommunityIA - Broader Context

In a number of documents, technical information about RIA was condensed and the science was put in a broader context. The most recent and complete of these documents is the one prepared by the RIA steering committee, "The Intellectual Challenges of RIA".

RIA Nuclear Science Justification

The detailed experimental program was laid out in three sets of documents:

1. Stopped and reaccelerated beams
  1995 Argonne Yellow Book
  1997 Columbus White Paper
2. Nuclear astrophysics
1999 Opportunities in Astrophysics with Radioactive Beams
3. Fast beams
2000 Opportunities with Fast Rare Isotope Beams

A condensed version of the above documents (but without details) is the 2000 Durham RIA Science White Paper.

RIA Applications

Some of the possible applications were discussed in two workshops on applications.

Proceedings of the Los Alamos workshop (December 2000) can be found here.

RIA Technical Developments and Description

A number of workshops have occurred on technical developments. The most recent were:A) RIA R&D Workshop, August 26-28, 2003, Bethesda, MD

Program and Written Documentation

RIA Facility Pre-conceptual design

B) RIA Facility Workshop, March 9-13, 2004, East Lansing, MI
