Application

The school is designed for graduate students, senior undergraduate students who are actively involved in research, and postdocs (within 2 years of their degree). A complete application consists of the application form (link to form below) and a letter of support from your research advisor sent to Carl Gross at cgross@phy.ornl.gov. The deadline for receipt of a completed application is April 23, 2006. Notification of acceptance will be sent by May 15, 2006 and applicants must confirm their attendance by June 1. All places not confirmed by June 1 will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

All forms use encryption, ie., https, for security. Make sure your browser indicates security (usually a padlock icon) is in place.

Costs and Reimbursements
At present, the school hopes to cover all local expenses and perhaps offer some allowance for travel to the school for U.S. participants. Foreign participants will have lodging and meals covered during the school. There is a possibility of reimbursement for some local expenses and or travel to the school but this will be determined later. If you hope to get a reimbursement, you must enter the U.S. on a B1 visa (make sure that B1 and not B2 is circled!). For foreign nationals already in the U.S. and not on a B1 visa, your specific circumstances will determine reimbursement. Contact us upon acceptance to the school.

U.S. Visa Information
The U. S. Department of State provides information on travel to the U. S. Note that in some cases in may take several months to get a visa. Note also that the Visa Waiver Program (27 countries) requires machine readable passports or you must have a visa. Go to the above link for the latest official information. The International Visitors Office of the National Academies also has information which you may find useful. Recommended visa application deadline is April 15, 2006.

The application process is now closed.
Applications for next year's school should be available in late Winter 2007.
