Partnerships for Innovation
The Center for Engineering Science Advanced Research (CESAR) in the Computer Science and Mathematics (CSM) Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks exceptionally qualified candidates for innovative research in signal processing and advanced computation. Work will involve development of novel methodologies and algorithms for detection, discrimination and tracking and their implementation on distributed multicore processor platforms such as the IBM CELL. Programming skills in FORTRAN 95/2003 (IBM XLF cross-compiler for multicore acceleration on Linux systems) are desirable. The positions require MSc or, preferably, PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Theoretical Physics. Exceptional candidates with a BSc degree will also be considered. CSM is the premier ORNL division for research in (1) high performance computing, (2) applied mathematics, and (3) unconventional technologies that exploit advances in emerging computational devices. Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, applied mathematicians, and engineers that conduct leading edge research, which ranges from basic science to national defense. Each opening corresponds initially to a Postgraduate / Postdoctoral Associate position that may potentially grow to full staff member position. Starting salaries (in the range of US $ 50 – 95K, depending on qualifications) and exceptional benefits (e.g., health coverage, vacations, etc) are being offered. At a minimum, the positions require the candidates to be permanent residents of the United States. Some positions may require US citizenship.
ORNL is a multi-program research facility managed by UT-Battelle for the US Department of Energy. It is an equal opportunity employer and committed to building and sustaining a culturally diverse work place. ORNL is located near the city of Knoxville, in East Tennessee at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and enjoys a mild climate all year round. Exceptional educational facilities are available, including the Oak Ridge School System, one of the best in the country.
