Partnerships for Innovation

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is well-known for its accomplishments in promoting excellence in science, technology and education.
Our University Partnership initiatives contribute to enhancing investment in the professional growth of faculty and students through grants, competitions and various academic enrichment programs.
ORAU also engages academia in the research- and education-related activities of UT-Battelle/Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 National Security Complex/National Nuclear Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science.
Promoting opportunities for collaborations among government entities, academe and industry is at the heart of what we do. Some of our recent successes in promoting scientific research and education include:
ORAU is a Key Planner of International Workshop on Eurasian Energy and Environmental Issues An international workshop entitled, “Energy, Environment and the Future of Security in Central Asia,” held recently in Rome, Italy, was convened jointly by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy and Environmental Security Directorate (in the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence) and the Foreign Ministry of Italy.
ORAU welcomed Temple University as its 100th sponsoring institution during the 64th annual meeting of the ORAU Council of Sponsoring Institutions held in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Texas-Pan American were also accepted as the 15th and 16th associate members.

B&W Y-12, the contractor operating the Y-12 National Security Complex, and ORAU signed a memorandum of understanding allowing the two institutions to engage in a number of collaborative research partnerships.
In an effort to invest in the future of science education, ORAU made its annual selection of Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award winners during spring 2008.
Six universities received a total of $5,000 as part of ORAU’s sponsorship of the 18th annual WERC (formerly known as Waste-management, Education and Research Consortium) Environmental Design Contest during spring 2008.
Thirteen university teams and one high school team converged on Oak Ridge National Laboratory during spring 2008 as semi-finalists vying for top honors in Global Venture Challenge (GVC).
Participants in a development workshop sponsored by ORAU and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) discussed possible collaborative efforts between government agencies, national labs, and university partners.
