Partnerships for Innovation
We take great pride in our strategic relationship with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and UT-Battelle, the lab's managing contractor. For more than 60 years, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) has placed its highest priority on facilitating research by university-based scientists at the lab.
Experience has proven that building meaningful relationships between university faculty and lab scientists is the foundation that leads to collaboration on major scientific initiatives. So we focus our efforts and investment on helping universities establish those relationships at DOE’s largest science and energy laboratory.
ORNL partners with ORAU and eight core universities in a variety of research areas.
ORAU supports ORNL in advancing its science agenda, most recently in the areas of neutron science and biological systems.
Since 1946, ORAU and ORNL have worked together to advance science and education opportunities.

“My work with Tony Palumbo and working in the Environmental Science Division [of ORNL] will establish a good network and partnerships that would support our bioremediation research and Environmental Science and Studies program at Spelman College.”
