Brenda Lee-Longmire: Supporting mothers and young children

Brenda Lee-Longmire, an ORAU administrative support specialist, helps at-risk single mothers gain a better foothold in their lives. Ever the energetic volunteer, she serves on the board of Crossroads Ministry, a nonprofit organization in the process of renovating an old motel that will become Crossroads Center of Hope, transitional housing for women and their young children in East Tennessee.

“Helping women who find themselves in situations dealing with domestic abuse, divorce, unplanned pregnancy, lack of education or loss of job or housing is a worthwhile and rewarding cause for me,” said Lee-Longmire.

The community organization also sponsors parenting classes so clients are better able to manage their family responsibilities.

Lee-Longmire, once a single mother herself, skillfully coordinates fundraising events, such as Crossroads Annual Tea and Silent Auction that generated $10,000 in 2018. Collectively, through various avenues of income, Crossroads Ministry has raised more than $50,000 a year from more than 200 donors, including ORAU.
