WHAT: Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC)/Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) 2007 Math-Science-Technology Summer Institute Final Presentation Ceremony
WHEN: Friday, July 20, 2007 8:30 a.m. to noon
WHERE: Cumberland Room, Oak Ridge City Center (formerly Oak Ridge Mall), 333 Main Street, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830
WHY: High school students and teachers from across Appalachia will be presenting results from research projects completed during the past two weeks under the guidance of ORNL mentors. The projects range from studying aquatic ecology to building Web sites and researching nanotechnology.
SPEAKERS:
A group of 45 high school students and teachers from 12 Appalachian states are currently participating in the ARC/ORNL Math-Science-Technology Summer Institute, now in its 18th year. The two-week program ends on Friday, July 20, with a ceremony where the participants will demonstrate what they have learned in their research projects through combination of skits and computer-based presentations.
Administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), the institute gives students and teachers a chance to have fun and conduct research in one of the nation’s most renowned national laboratories.
*NOTE TO EDITORS: Tennessee participants include Amber Simpson of Morristown and Christopher Bowman of Bradyville. Simpson is a math teacher at Morristown East High School. Bowman will be a junior at Cannon County High School in the fall. Please see the full list of participants below.
