Media Advisory: ORAU partners with ORNL to host a Science Village at the Knox County Schools Career Expo

Hands-on village creates an interactive, science experience for students

Who: Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory

What: ORAU/ORNL "Science Village" features more than 3,000 square feet of hands-on science and engineering activities.

The focal point of the exhibit will be a Spallation Neutron Source Simulator Exhibit. Students will play the part of an ion beam going through a simulated particle accelerator at nearly the speed of light and then emerge from the exhibit as neutrons, ready to conduct experiments.

Other exhibits include the Center for Nanophase Material, Computational Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and Physics and Nuclear Science. In addition to scientific displays, students will have a chance to conduct chemistry, physics and math experiments provided by ORAU's K-12 Outreach Programs and ORAU's Center for Science Education. Scientists specializing in various subjects will answer questions students may have regarding experiments and careers in the field of science.
