ORAU Employees Awarded More than $86,000 During Annual Ceremony

May 15, 2008

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) awarded more than $86,000 to 76 employees during a ceremony on Wednesday at Pollard Technology Conference Center to commemorate the organization’s Achievement Cash Award Program (ACAP).

The purpose of ACAP is to reward specific, measurable and exemplary accomplishments within ORAU’s programmatic and university consortium activities and business support operations. This year, three individuals and nine teams representing a cross-section of the programs and support operations at ORAU were honored for their achievements.

Among the winners was a team that brainstormed a fun and exciting site dedication for ORAU’s new Center for Science Education, which will open in 2009. The event, attended by more than 300 guests, not only served to educate the community about this newest addition to ORAU's footprint, but also increased visibility for ORAU's Science Education programs. A second team of ORAU employees was honored for working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop and distribute more than 9,800 tool kits for public health professionals who expressed concern about the readiness of their organization to respond to a radiological terrorism event.

Other winners included a group of employees that joined the National Library of Medicine with other multidisciplinary organizations focused on providing information about HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment for a cooperative training project, as well as a team that worked to reestablish cytogenetic biodosimetry capabilities to greatly improve the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site’s (REAC/TS) and National Nuclear Security Administration’s radiation emergency medical response missions.

"Each year, ORAU is pleased to recognize a number of extraordinary accomplishments made by employees who truly go above and beyond in helping the organization strengthen its mission," said ORAU Director of Compensation and Benefits Phil Sartell. "This year was no different with employees awarded for their creativity, dedication, teamwork and a commitment to continued excellence."
