McCloud, an Oak Ridge resident, is an electronic instrument instructor in ORAU's Independent Environmental Assessment and Verification Program and continues to maintain a cache of training and health physics instrumentation. He began his career with ORAU on Mar. 3, 1959, and has worked in the same department ever since.

Abelquist noted that “Howard has a knack for making the impossible possible by keeping equipment running… and making sure the labs run seamlessly.”
