Moroney Joins ORAU as Manager for Health Physics Group

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—William Roger Moroney, Jr., has joined Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) as manager of the Health Physics Group (HPG), which provides a full range of health physics services, including support for audits and reviews, dose modeling and technical evaluations.

As manager, Moroney will serve as the group supervisor responsible for the activities of the health physics staff in support of the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other customers. He will also be in charge of business development activities, management of the HPG resources, and technical support of the HPG team.

"I am absolutely thrilled that Roger has joined the ORAU team," said Dr. Eric Abelquist, vice president and director of ORAU's environmental assessments and health physics programs. "Roger's unique radiation, management, and dosimetry background, make him well prepared to lead our group, and we look forward to working with him."

With more than 15 years of experience in health physics, Moroney most recently served as a manager for Siemens Molecular Imaging (MI), where he managed the radiation protection and environmental health and safety team responsible for the Positron Emission Tomography Network (PETNET) Solution, a world-wide network of PET nuclear pharmacies. He also served as the corporate regional safety officer for both Siemens MI and PETNET Solutions. Previously, Moroney served as an internal dosimetrist at MJW Corporation, where, among other things, he worked with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as part of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA).

Moroney received his bachelor's degree in physics from Southern Illinois Universityand his master's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Missouri. He is a certified health physicist through the American Board of Health Physics.
