ORAU to honor veterans with community event

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—Join Oak Ridge Associated Universities to celebrate Veterans Day and honor all who served on Nov. 9, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Pollard Technology Conference Center auditorium.

Featured guest speaker will be Vice Admiral Peter M. Hekman (U.S. Navy, retired). Hekman commanded the Naval Sea Command which is the largest, most complex material command in the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) from 1988 to 1991. Hekman has received the U.S. Department of Energy Exceptional Service Award and Medal, the American Society of Engineers’ highest professional award, the DOD Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and four awards from the Presidential Legion of Merit.

Entertainment, beginning at 9:30 a.m., will be provided by The Southern Brass along with a presentation of the colors by the ROTC Color Guard from Carson Newman College. The event is open to the public and admission is free. All are encouraged to join ORAU in honoring those who served in our Armed Forces. Light refreshments will be served after the program.
