ORAU supports the education community through grant programs, scholarships, and research appointments

Focused on enhancing the scientific research and education enterprises of our nation, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) continues to leverage academic, commercial and federal partnerships to help cultivate the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Here are just a few examples of some of the education programs and resources administered by ORAU:

Extreme Classroom MakeoverExtreme Classroom Makeover

ORAU annually hosts a local contest in which one lucky East Tennessee 5th through 8th grade science teacher will receive an extreme classroom makeover worth $25,000 in high tech equipment and teacher training.

ORAU/ORNL High Performance Computing (HPC) Grant ProgramORAU/ORNL High Performance Computing (HPC) Grant Program

Co-sponsored by ORAU and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), this competitive grant program provides faculty–student teams with a monetary award and valuable access to the lab’s leadership class computing resources and staff.

William G. PollardPollard Scholarships

In honor of the organization’s founding father, ORAU established the William G. Pollard Scholarship program in 1996 to recognize children of ORAU employees–who are outstanding high school or undergraduate students–with a monetary award to further their undergraduate studies.

In accordance with its goal of enhancing scientific research and education, ORAU annually awards area schools with education grants for advancement of math and science education.

Tennessee Science BowlTennessee Science Bowl

Students from across the state compete in this annual event sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office and other local businesses, including ORAU. The winning team receives an all–expenses–paid trip to compete in the National Science Bowl® held in Washington, D.C.
