ORAU Supports the Protection of Human Subjects Participating in Formal Research

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and following accepted national and international principles in protecting human subjects involved in research.

Through our contract to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), we specifically work with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to maintain the highest standards in human subjects protection.

Human Subjects Research Database

We maintain an online database on current research involving human subjects for DOE.

Human Subjects Policy Implementation

ORAU assists DOE’s Office of Science in implementing its Protecting Human Subjects program through various activities.

DOE Central Beryllium Institutional Review Board (CBeIRB)

We manage DOE's CBeIRB to provide expertise and consistency in addressing human subjects protection issues for any DOE-related beryllium research or testing.

Oak Ridge Sitewide Institutional Review Board (ORSIRB)

ORAU provides expertise and consistency in addressing human subjects protection issues for research involving Oak Ridge Operations workers.
